Professional

My practice consists of individual, couples and family therapy, family and divorce mediation and facilitation in the collaborative family law process. My work is informed by the basic values and beliefs that all individuals and groups should be understood, treated with dignity and approached with respect and compassion.  As my skills and knowledge have grown since entering graduate school in 1976, so have these values and beliefs. I am committed to helping individuals, couples and families find solutions to problems and to build on their strengths when coping with the very difficult situations that often occur in our lives.

I graduated from the Syracuse University School of Social Work in 1978 with a Master of Social Work degree and a certificate of specialized training in Family Therapy.  I earned a New York State license to independently practice Social Work (Licensed Certified Social Worker-R020760) in 1984 after completing 6 full years of clinically supervised work as a therapist in a New York State licensed mental health clinic at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse, New York.

I began my full time private practice in 2006.  Prior to that I enjoyed a successful journey as an administrator in both Mental Health and Child Welfare, while maintaining a small, part time clinical practice. Transitioning to full time practice as a therapist, mediator and facilitator has been tremendously rewarding. I continue to work because I find it  rewarding to help people solve difficult personal and interpersonal problems and to increase the peace in their lives.

Personal

My primary interests outside of work have been my family, athletics and music.  My wife is a Professor of Psychology and my son has earned his Master of Social Work degree and works as a therapist with people seeking recovery from addictions. In the past,  I completed the New York City Marathon and numerous triathlons, including the Tupper Lake Tin Man (half the distance of the Hawaii Iron Man). I enjoy playing various stringed instruments and am currently playing in a trio that performs a wide range of traditional and more contemporary music. In my personal life, as in my professional life, I strive to make relationships meaningful and sustainable.
